Welcome to the Literacy and Numeracy tool kit project.
This site aims to set up effective literacy and numeracy development for teachers of adolescents who are English-language learners.
On this web page you will find a wide range of explicit teaching strategies and explicit learning resources to support both the teacher and learner in the classroom. An extensive variety of material is included on this site and referenced in the acknowledgements page of this site.
Dual purpose of learning strategies:
- Help students access content material
- Develop strategies for students to apply in other situations
The aim is to provide support to teachers in embedding strategy assessments to check for understanding & collect evidence of student learning.
As well as create a bank of Iris demonstrations of best practice – what a technique might look like when used in different content areas.
Finally. to develop teachers as potential leaders and mentors to their colleagues.
